For the Class of 2027: You will have two quarters of campus service during your junior year, with one of those quarters being with the Cafeteria or Grounds for most of you. You will be expected to complete two hours of campus service per week during your 'on' quarters. You will have campus service during all four quarters of your senior year and the weekly expectation slightly increases, to three hours per week.

These descriptions are to help give you an idea of what tasks you'll be doing in that assignment and are by no means exhaustive. There may be other duties as assigned. If you need help finding out who supervises a particular assignment, please contact the campus service coordinator.
Some of these positions are only available to seniors or through the Senior Leadership Campus Service process. For many of the assignments for juniors, you can remain in that position in your senior year but you would need to discuss it with that campus service supervisor in the spring. Not all of these positions will be available every year/term or on both campuses.
Academic Programs: File, copy, deliver, special projects, help with events, help in book room.
American Studies TA: Students will help organize files, make copies, prepare needed materials for lesson plans, research, and lead writing help for my American Studies students.
Athletics: Assist with game operations and uniform laundry and support varsity sports competitions.
Auditorium: Students will assist with all aspects of event production in the auditorium, including lighting, sound, stage management, rigging, carpentry, A/V, and general venue maintenance.
Biology Lab: Managing and maintaining equipment and consumables in the Biology labs, washing glassware, monitoring our pipette tips, and refilling tip boxes as needed, and making sure labs are stocked.
Biology TA: Students can expect to help the biology lab assistant manage and upkeep the stock room as well as helping set up labs for the faculty on the bio floor. Typical lab skills you will learn are how to make and pour agar plates, chunk C. elegans, prepare aliquots of various solutions, and setting up and learning how to use other lab equipment such as microscopes and gel electrophoreses systems (depending on the classes offered each semester).
Book Room: Checking in/out textbooks, helping with book distributions, filing, organizing, barcoding textbooks, inventory
Bryan Desk: Campus service at Bryan Desk is not only learning about how to perform administrative duties, but also learning about customer service. Students escort visitors, answer phones, deliver mail to various departments and handle a variety of other duties.
Cafeteria: Assist the cafeteria staff with prep, serving, and cleanup.
Cafeteria: Compost: Helping manage the compost program in the cafeteria.
Campus Safety and Security: The majority of our students will be helping maintain vehicle cleanliness. They will remove trash, clean windows, wipe down surfaces, and vacuum the interiors. I may have some students complete tasks related to equipment checks, lost and found management, and possibly other organizational tasks. One senior will be responsible for scheduling/training the juniors.
Chemistry TA: Assist the Chemistry department faculty and staff.
Chinese TA: Assist the Chinese instructors and courses.
Communications Content Creator: Videographers, photographers, and bloggers/editors working within Institutional Advancement's Communications department.
Copy Center: Help make copies, laminate, bind booklets, etc.
Counseling: Assist with departmental needs such as filing, copying, etc.
DEEP Science: Students will take care of plants in hydroponic setups and in pots around campus. They may also do some genetics lab prep for me. Works within the Distance Education and Extended Programs (DEEP) division.
DEEP Summer Programs: Assist in the office with organizational tasks, create and schedule posts to Accelerator social media, and complete projects such as compiling feedback results and charting enrollment rates. Works within the Distance Education and Extended Programs (DEEP) division.
Engineering TA: Keep the two engineering classrooms and their associated equipment in working order, other tasks related to organizing kits (LEGO, Kinects, Windmills), organizing and inventorying sensors, maintaining whiteboards, removing cardboard, and kitting parts for classroom instruction.
Extended Learning: Completing clerical tasks, drafting social media posts, editing documents, and managing data.
External Relations: Assist in the office with organizational and event tasks, working within the Division of External Relations, which advances the mission of NCSSM through building relationships with constituencies (students, alumni, parents, legislators, community partners, corporate sponsors, etc.
External Relations Liaison: Work as team members within the Division of External Relations, which advances the mission of NCSSM through building relationships with constituencies (students, alumni, parents, legislators, community partners, corporate sponsors, etc.
FabLab TA: This position focuses on training, primarily for 3D printing and laser cutting, but could also include developing training video and supporting other CAD work.
Fine Arts TA: Assist with the music program, art program, or auditorium.
Foundation Attaché (Senior)/Foundation Aide (Junior): Work as team members with the NCSSM Foundation, which functions to advance the mission of NCSSM through fundraising, public relations, and relationship management activities.
Grounds: Help the Plant Facilities team with campus upkeep and special events.
Grounds: Sustainability: Work on the sustainability gardens around campus.
Housekeeping: Assist with cleaning tasks around campus.
Human Resources: Mail transfer, mass mailings, sorting, special projects, shredding.
Humanities: Photocopying, poster making and hanging, publicity, and research for a Humanities department employee.
Humanities TA: Copies, scans, uploads, and emails of course materials, etc.; tutoring, which includes research assistance, help with pre-writing, review of student drafts, review sessions before major assignments/exams, etc.; and regular correspondence with club and seminar leaders about needs.
Intramurals: We have a number of campus service positions in Intramurals. If you enjoy sports or being around sports please consider joining one our various crews. Officials for soccer, basketball, volleyball are needed. Field and court setup are other job duties included for the program. Timers and score keepers are another way to assist with Intramurals. A general knowledge of the sport is a plus and training is provided.
Latin TA: Peer tutorial, help with grading, photocopying, spreadsheet.
Library: Assist with checking materials in and out, shelving books and library materials, shelf reading, tidying library spaces, cleaning glass panes, answering student and faculty questions, and participating in instructional materials related to library database research and information literacy skills.
Library Liaison: Assist with reference services and independently support special projects while developing skills in areas such as graphic design, social media management, archives, and database research. Library Liaisons may also help host library events and support UniReads, the campus book club.
Mail Services: Receipting all incoming packages for staff and students, delivering staff/faculty packages on campus to departments, and work with Central Stores pulling orders and delivering throughout the campus.
Mathematics: Clerical work, copying, research for TCM Conference, running errands in the building, helping put together packets for TCM.
Mathematics TA: Assist the Mathematics department faculty and staff.
Mentorship and Research Leader: Support the logistics, communications, and other duties as assigned that are required for the success of NCSSM's research programs.
Peer Counseling Coordinator: Assisting with college representatives' visits to campus, promoting scholarships and unique opportunities, and enhancing the well-being of others through mental health programs.
Physics Lab Management: Students will learn how physics labs and demonstrations work by helping to set them up and take them down. Other tasks include keeping an up to date inventory, organizing equipment in cabinets, and keeping classrooms and labs neat and tidy.
Physics TA: Helping with grades, lab monitoring, tutorials, etc.
Recycling: Collecting recycling around campus.
Registrar's Office: Student will help with office tasks like filing, recycling, shredding, data management and manipulation, electronic records keeping, and system testing.
Residential Education and Housing: Tasks include, but are not limited to: delivering housekeeping supplies, cleaning washers and dryers, setting up for SAB events, and cleaning Hunt Kitchen.
Residential Life Assistant: Building a community on their hall through programming, acting as a peer mediator to students on hall, and serving as a resource for any residents with academic or community related questions, and assisting with vital administrative tasks such as curfew checks and housekeeping.
Ryden AI TA: Work under the AI staff to develop SSOs , a curriculum of AI K-12 programs, and other outreach projects as well as to assist with departmental events.
School Store/Concession Stand: Fold clothing, keep store shelves neat & restocked, help organize stock in store, and assist with major weekend events, like Welcome Day or Alumni Weekend.
Science TA: Assist instructors who teach in multiple Science disciplines.
Smart Bar: Students work scheduled shifts at the Smart Bar and assist students, faculty, and staff with technology-related questions, including (but not limited to) network connectivity, software installation, and printer setup and troubleshooting.
Spanish TA: Assist Spanish instructors with Spanish Conversation Hour and various other programming.
Student Activities: Assist with Student Activities Board (SAB) events and clean and supervise the Hunt kitchen.
Student Ambassador: Participating with campus tours, on campus programs, off-site programs, virtual presentations all help to aid prospective students and families as they make the challenging decision to apply and attend NCSSM.
Student Government: Given the time commitment, the president, senate president, and treasurer positions in Student Government are the elected students' campus service assignments.
Student Lab Assistant: Assist with setting up and breaking down labs, setting up carts, inventory of chemicals and lab supplies, and maintaining the stockroom and laboratories.
Summer Programs: Aid and support social media and marketing of summer programs and whatever else is needed for the program.
Sustainability Project Leader: Inform NCSSM community about issues related to sustainability, write grants of sustainability initiatives, plan and host events, etc.
Training Room: Assist the athletic trainers with managing the training room and supporting Athletics events.
Visual Arts TA: Assist with art supplies and studio maintenance
World Languages TA: Tutor Journeys and Navigating-level language students, organize language lunches and language related events (International Mother Language Day, French Week, Quijote Day, Hispanic Heritage Month, etc.), assist instructors with various projects, research language related topics and more depending on needs and interests.
Yearbook: Tasks include taking pictures for the yearbook, light editing of pages, design work, and distribution in the spring.
